Latest reports from the Mirror claims that Marco Silva is paying attention to Sami Nasri’s situation and the Portuguese manager seems interested in getting the Premier League winner back to England. The French playmaker was banned for doping charges, but he is free to have trials with clubs from November after he has served his ban time.
From the January transfer window, the midfielder can be signed by clubs and the fact that he is a free agent might mean that some teams would be interested in him. West Ham United are also said to be keen on getting him back to England.
The Toffees have impressed in patches under Marco Silva and it is clear that the manager is giving an identity to this talented squad he has at his disposal. He still might not have enough to challenge the monopoly of the top six clubs, but with few more signings and a little bit more time, the Merseyside club can challenge the big clubs.
However, a signing like Nasri might put off most of the fans as the Frenchman’s best years are already behind him. The fact that he hasn’t played any competitive football for more than a year should make the club more sceptical about making a move for him. Even during his heydays, Nasri was said to have an attitude problem, and there would be occasions when he wouldn’t just put in a big shift for his side. So there are lots of reason why the Toffees shouldn’t go through with this idea.
However, we believe the player might be hungry after being banned and would like to show the world what he is capable of one last time. The 31-year-old is going to add experience to the Toffees squad, but the Frenchman should only be signed after he impresses the club in the trial which the Merseyside club can ask for right now.
Nasri has the experience of playing for the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City. With the latter, he won two Premier League titles. He can play anywhere across the final third and can be the backup option for someone like Gylfi Sigurdsson who is known to be slightly injury prone. The 31-year-old can demand big wages given his reputation so that could also turn out to be a roadblock for the Toffees.
There are lots of ifs and buts involved in this deal, and the Toffees should be careful before giving him a contract in January. If Nasri gets back to his best, he still can change the game, but it remains to be seen whether the playmaker would be able to turn back the clock before bowing out from football.
