AC Milan boss Vincenzo Montella has revealed that Cesc Fabregas is not the ideal player to replace Riccardo Montolivo at AC Milan.
Montolivo has been ruled out for six months after injuring his ligament during Italy’s 1-1 draw with Spain. Milan have earlier been linked with the Spanish midfielder who has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Antonio Conte.
Montella said, “We are looking for a player who has the characteristics of Montolivo, who can also play in a midfield too. Fabregas? He doesn’t have those particular attributes.”
Conte has been using N’Golo Kante in the holding role while Oscar and Matic has been deployed much forward. Due to lack of game time, he has lost his place in the Spanish national team and has Ander Herrera replaced him.
The 29 year old joined from Barcelona in 2014 and has since won the Premier League in the 2014-15 season under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho.
