Not too long ago Steven Gerrard made it clear that he would sign his four loan players (Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent, Joe Worrall and Lassana Coulibaly) permanently if it were up to him. However, it seems clear that Joe Worrall doesn’t see his future with the Glasgow giants as he recently revealed in an interview that he is at Rangers just on loan and he is still a Forest player.
The centre-back was quoted as saying,”It’s obviously nice that the manager says things like that (On Gerrard’s willingness to sign him permanently), but I’m on loan from Forest. Forest is my team, they employ me and pay my wages. It’s a loan for me. I’m really enjoying it here, and I thank the gaffer for playing me in the games. I’m here until the end of the season, so hopefully, you’ll see a lot more from me and what I can do.”
Joe Worrall has become the first choice defender at the back along with Connor Goldson, and many are surprised to see that happen as Nikola Katic hasn’t done too poorly. Worrall has impressed in parts, but there have been occasions when he has let his team down, and his inexperience showed in certain situations.
From his words, it’s clear that Worrall isn’t too interested in staying at Glasgow for more than a year and he is only at Ibrox to get some game time. However, his situation as Forest isn’t going to brighten up as long as Aitor Karanka is the manager (in our opinion) as since he took over the club earlier this year, Worrall who was a regular at one point in time, has hardly featured for The Tricky Trees.
During the transfer window Karanka had commented,”If he(Worrall) does prefer to stay here, he needs to understand – and I have told him this – that it will be difficult for him to play right now. It is his decision.” So it was no surprise that the player decided to move out and Forest signed a good amount of player in the centre back role, and we wouldn’t be wrong in saying that Worrall is probably going to be 4th or 5th choice centre-back at the English club right now.
Karanka’s men currently occupy the sixth spot and are in with a decent chance of qualifying for the playoff spot so Worrall should probably think before commenting as he doesn’t seem to be in favour at his parent club and in Rangers, he seems to have a future. But he is already counting a permanent move out and it remains to be seen what the future holds for this English defender.
