Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie recently showered his love towards Rangers in a Q and A session which he conducted on his social media account. He made a revelation that he would definitely play for Rangers one day and also went on to take a dig against their biggest rivals Celtic. A fan asked who would he rather play for between Cardiff and Celtic to which the striker replied neither.
This is not the first time that McBurnie has shown his love towards the Light Blues and it is clear that the Scottish international is a die-hard Rangers fan. McBurnie is crucial to Swansea’s promotion chances as he is their regular striker and has so far found the back of the net six times in 15 Championship appearances. The forward also went on to say that he believes Gerrard’s men can win the league title this season thereby stopping Celtic’s domination in the Scottish Premiership.
Not too long ago Steven Gerrard had claimed that their side lacked quality in the attacking third and we can expect a striker to be signed in between the next two transfer windows. McBurnie’s revelation certainly should keep Rangers interested in him, but given that he is 22 and playing for an English club who are hopeful of making it to the English top flight, the forward might stick with his current team for now.
The Swans have tied him down until 2021 and it was only in July this year that the Scottish striker signed a new deal with the Welsh outfit. Gerrard had earlier commented after Aberdeen’s defeat,”I’ll assure everyone is that won’t be our last semi-final. If it means I have to go and buy better quality players for when we get to this stage, that’s what will happen. If the players that we’ve got now don’t improve and start showing the quality we need in the final third, my job is to find the players who will. Otherwise, we are never going to win anything.”
Umar Sadiq has flopped big time in Glasgow, and Kyle Lafferty is already in his thirties. The Gers are too heavily dependent on Alfredo Morelos, and he is again likely to attract interest in the January transfer window. So even though Gerrard might have signed 15 players in the summer, going for a striker in the future would make sense.
However, McBurnie might think a move to Ibrox now would be too soon for him, and he has the potential to play for a Premier League club. His love would definitely bring him to Glasgow at some point but definitely not in the foreseeable future so the Gers fan should calm down as signing McBurnie doesn’t seem too realistic at the moment.
