According to the latest reports, Leeds United are said to be monitoring Brentford midfielder Lewis Macleod’s situation as he has rejected a new contract offer with the Bees. The left midfielder is already in the final year of his contract, and the Whites should be keeping a close eye on his developments as he could be available on a cut-price deal.
Reports earlier confirmed that Bielsa could be after a wide man or a winger in January and Macleod has the potential to fill in the left wing spot which is usually occupied by Macedonian Ezgjan Alioski. Apart from him, Bielsa doesn’t have a proper alternative, and as a result, Alioski remains the only plausible option in that position.
17-year-old Jack Clarke had to be promoted to the senior team to provide backup for that particular role. The youngster has impressed, but one cannot depend too much on a player who is in his first senior season of the career. Alioski has often been a let down in the attacking third and such is the current scenario that many wouldn’t mind a certain 17-year-old starting over him.
It was expected that the club would be after a player who could play on the left flank and Macleod fits the bill perfectly. The former Rangers player has been a regular for the Bees and has slowly started to establish himself in the first eleven after his career was severely hampered with injuries.
The 24-year-old can play anywhere across the midfield, and that could be one of the reasons why Bielsa is after this Brentford regular. His pace, dribbling skills and his work rate are his prime asset, and we feel he can be a decent addition to the Whites squad. He might not be as eye catchy as other wingers but he does the basics right, and United might not have to shell out much to land this talented Scotsman.
Alioski has often been guilty of not producing the goods in the final third, and he can certainly do with some more competitions for places in his position. Macleod is the product of Rangers academy and has represented Scotland at the u-21 level.
The Gers didn’t consider him to be good enough and he was shipped to England. Last season, he missed close to 40 games for his side due to a knee injury, but it seems like he has finally gone past his injury nightmares. It remains to be seen how keen the Whites are to land this Brentford talent and whether the 24-year-old would be successful at Elland Road if Bielsa can strike a deal in January.
