Rangers played hosts to Spartak Moscow earlier tonight hoping to continue their good run in this edition of the UEFA Europa League. The Light Blues began the match on the offensive but couldn’t manage to make their early dominance count. The away side slowly grew into the game and went into half-time with a 0-0 scoreline.
The second half was more of the same with the Gers piling on the pressure on the Spartak defence. However, the Russians held firm and earned a hard-fought draw on the night.
Let’s take a look at how each Rangers player fared during the match against Spartak Moscow.
GK: Allan McGregor – 6/10
The Gers keeper had a relatively easy night in goal but had to make a brilliant save in the second half to keep the scores level.
RB: James Tavernier – 7/10
The Rangers skipper should have scored in the 2nd minute but failed to make contact with the ball. He had a relatively easy outing defensively but couldn’t manage to deliver the telling ball in the final third.
CB: Joe Worrall – 7/10
He was mostly untroubled by the Spartak attackers and had a comfortable game while sitting at the heart of the Gers defence.
CB: Connor Goldson – 7/10
The centre-back distributed the ball well and won a number of aerial duels to earn a clean sheet on the night.
LB: Jon Flanagan – 6.5/10
The former Liverpool full-back kept possession well but couldn’t do much going forward.
CM: Oviemuno Ejaria – 7/10
He was always looking to join in on the attack and played some nice passes from midfield without giving away the ball.
CM: Ryan Jack – 6/10
He failed to provide a spark going forward and largely had an ineffective game at the middle of the park.
CM: Lassana Coulibaly – 5.5/10
The Gers midfielder was sloppy in possession at times and was lucky that the Spartak attackers couldn’t capitalise on his mistakes. However, he grew into the contest and had a decent second half.
RM: Daniel Candeias – 7/10
The winger tried to create some chances in and around the Spartak penalty area but did not get the rub of the green. His goal-bound attempt was saved by the Spartak goalie in the second half.
ST: Alfredo Morelos -6.5/10
His shots often failed to hit the target. The Gers forward had a frustrating night out, but he did create some good opportunities for his teammates.
LM: Ryan Kent – 8/10
He was the home side’s best player on the pitch. The winger linked up play well and was very accurate with his passes. The English talent was at the heart of every good move that the Gers could cook up going forward.
Substitutes:
RM: Eros Grezda – 6/10
His shot was tipped over the bar by the Spartak keeper in injury-time.
LM: Glenn Middleton – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
