Manchester United would face off against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday hoping to bounce back from their narrow midweek defeat versus Juventus. The Red Devils are currently languishing in mid-table and are in dire need of some positive results under Jose Mourinho.
This match against the Toffees would serve as a perfect opportunity for them to kickstart their campaign and mount a realistic challenge for a top 4 spot. Mourinho is expected to line up his players in a 4-2-3-1 formation and might name an unchanged team for this weekend’s Premier League clash.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Everton
Defence
David De Gea will start in goal for the Reds of Manchester against Everton on Sunday following his heroics against Juventus. The Spanish keeper was unable to keep a clean sheet in midweek, but De Gea’s performance was one of the rare positives on the night.
The centre-back pairing of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof seems to be Mourinho’s preferred choice at the moment so we can expect the duo to line up again in front of the loyal Man United supporters.
Ashley Young should keep his place at right-back after putting in a fantastic display versus Juve while Luke Shaw would look to put in a good shift down the left flank. Despite not getting too many favourable results over the past few weeks, Mourinho’s defenders are slowly improving which should give the Red Devils some confidence going into this clash versus the Toffees.
Midfield
The midfield pair of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba might continue to feature at the middle of the park following their underwhelming display in the UEFA Champions League. Andreas Pereira will be available on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half of this match.
The in-form trio of Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford could be deployed in the opposition half as part of the Man United attack. Both Mata and Martial have arguably been Mourinho’s best players going forward over the past few matches. So we can expect another strong showing from them while Rashford would also look to make a mark against an Everton side which has shipped in 12 goals in 9 league matches.
Attack
Romelu Lukaku will lead the lines for the Red Devils once again even though he’s struggling to find form in front of goal. The Belgian forward’s last strike for United came against Watford last month, so he needs to start firing some goals soon or else risk being dropped by Mourinho.
