Leeds United went back to the top of the table after a win against Ipswich Town midweek. However, their next opponents are likely to provide a sterner test as Nottingham Forest would travel to West Yorkshire to take on the Whites. There is not much to choose between the current top six sides as the first and the sixth are just separated by two points, so it is crucial for United to continue their run.
The Tricky Trees have drawn two, won two and lost one in their last five fixtures but one of their wins came against Middlesbrough. So it is clear that on their day Aitor Karanka’s men can topple over any opponents. However, with the Whites playing at home, they are going to go in as the favourites.
Team News
Gaetano Berardi was subbed off half an hour into the last game, and this would be a setback for Bielsa as not too long ago he was making a comeback from an injury. The severity of the injury is still not known. It is still not clear whether Barry Douglas would be available for this tie. Patrick Bamford and Izzy Brown continue to be long-term absentees. Pontus Jansson should be back after serving his one-match suspension.
Leeds United’s predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest
Formation (4-1-4-1)
Defence
Bailey Peacock Farrell hardly had anything to do in the midweek game, but we expect him to have a much busier evening in this game. He should start in goal. Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson should be back as the centre-back partnership and a clean sheet should be a top priority in this game.
Tom Pearce played half an hour of the last game, and we believe the young Englishman should get a start in the back four if Douglas doesn’t recover in time. Down the right, Luke Ayling should continue to start to complete the back four.
Midfield
Kalvin Phillips often drops deep in between the two centre-backs to take the ball and dictate play. He will continue in his defensive midfield role. Mateusz Klich has hit a good run of form and is one of the most consistent performers on the pitch currently. He should continue to start in central midfield. Adam Forshaw put in a decent cameo against Ipswich but knowing Bielsa he is likely to go in with Samuel Saiz again who has flattered to deceive of late.
Pablo Hernandez put in a masterclass down the right, and we believe he is again going to be a crucial man in the attacking third. Ezgjan Alioski should start on the left.
Attack
Kemar Roofe is yet to hit top gear after coming back from injury but the goal in midweek should give him confidence. He should lead the line for the Whites.
