Tottenham Hotspur faced off against PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion earlier this evening hoping to earn their first points of this UEFA Champions League campaign. Spurs began the match dominating possession early on, but they gave up a goal in the 29th minute when Toby Alderweireld made a massive error in defence which helped Hirving Lozano score the opening goal of the game. However, the North Londoners responded just 10 minutes later through Lucas Moura’s deflected strike to level things up on the night.
The away side ramped up the pressure in the second half and got the lead through Harry Kane’s header in the 54th minute. However, PSV struck back in the 87th minute through Luuk de Jong’s clever finish to earn a well-deserved point from this encounter. The match ended honours even with an entertaining scoreline of 2-2.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham Hotspur player fared during the contest against PSV Eindhoven.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 3/10
The French keeper made a huge error of judgement in the second half and was sent off because of it. His mistake ended up costing Spurs a victory which has left their qualification hopes in tatters.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 7/10
His free kicks were not up to their usual standard. However, he was a fantastic outlet for Spurs going forward and performed his defensive duties well.
CB: Davinson Sánchez – 6/10
The Colombian looked more composed on the ball than his centre-back partner. However, he was unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal in the first half.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 4/10
The Belgian made a horrendous error in the first half which led to the Lozano goal. However, he recovered well and was pretty solid in the second half.
LB: Ben Davies – 5/10
He found it hard coping with Lozano’s trickery and was average at best, during the game.
CM: Eric Dier – 6.5/10
The English midfielder was a commanding presence in midfield and linked up play well when called into action.
CM: Mousa Dembéle – 5/10
The PSV midfielders were full of energy which made it hard for the Belgian to boss things in midfield.
RM: Lucas Moura – 6/10
The Brazilian had an unusually quiet night for Spurs. However, he did score when his shot was deflected into the PSV net which helped Tottenham regain a foothold in the game.
CAM: Christian Eriksen – 7/10
He showed some glimpses of his brilliance and picked out Kane with a brilliant pass in the lead up to Spurs’ second goal.
LM: Heung-Min Son – 6.5/10
The South Korean was a spectator in the first half. However, he came back into the game and looked a real threat in the second half.
ST: Harry Kane – 6.5/10
The English forward hit the post but came back in the second half to score with a header from close range.
Substitutes:

He made a great save after coming on but was left helpless during de Jong’s equaliser.
