Manchester City have made a fabulous start to their Premier League title defence and are currently at the top of the league standings with a superior goal difference separating them from their nearest challengers, Liverpool.
Despite scoring goals for fun going forward, the Citizens still lack productivity in the striking department. Sergio Aguero remains a worthy first-choice striker under Pep Guardiola but the form of Gabriel Jesus this season has been abysmal.
Let’s take a look at three strikers that Guardiola should look to sign during the winter transfer period.
Lorenzo Insigne
The Napoli ace can play in multiple positions but primarily operates as a left-winger. He can also be deployed as a secondary striker inside the opposition penalty box and would be a perfect back-up to Sergio Aguero. The Italian sensation is a proven goal-scorer in the Serie A for Carlo Ancelotti’s side and has already caught the eye with some fantastic performances this season. One of his best displays came in the UEFA Champions League versus Liverpool earlier this month.
His versatility and massive potential make him a worthy candidate for taking up the goal-scoring duties at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola should consider securing his signature as Insigne could become the next big star in European football.
Timo Werner
The 22-year-old RB Leipzig centre-forward has been outstanding in the Bundesliga for quite some time now. He has put in some magnificent displays for the German outfit over the past couple of campaigns. Werner has also made a fantastic start to this season, finding the back of the net four times and creating two assists in 10 matches for the Bundesliga club so far.
Werner has shown a lot of promise and would give City something different up top if Guardiola decides to bring him to Manchester.
Ciro Immobile
The Italian frontman has been a regular goal-scorer for Lazio over the past few years. He has a wonderful habit of finding the back of the net on a consistent basis and would be a perfect long-term signing for the Citizens. With Aguero heading into the twilight of his career, maybe it is time for Guardiola to move in for another proven goal-scorer at the top level.
Immobile has scored seven goals and created one assist in 11 matches for the Serie A outfit so far and is only getting better with each season.
