Rangers might have signed quite a few players in the summer, but Andy Halliday remains an essential player for the club. Ryan Jack’s injury has helped him get some extra game time, and Halliday hasn’t disappointed as he has put in a few excellent performances. The boyhood Bears fan revealed that his football IQ has come up leaps and bounds this season and believes there is still a lot to come from them as a team.
Halliday was quoted as saying,”I think Marbella was key to that [spirit]. It was a two-week programme and I saw the boys’ mentality, fitness and togetherness all grow. Our football IQ, as I like to call it, came on leaps and bounds. I feel the application put in over every single day is the reason we are reaping benefits now.”
Gerrard had organised a pre-season training camp in Spain, and that seems to have work wonders as the Bears started their season strongly as they made it out through four gruelling rounds of the Europa League qualifiers.
Not many would have taken a punt on Halliday being in the reckoning for a starting place as he had spent the last season on loan with the Azerbaijanian outfit Gabala. However, the midfielder has made 12 appearances this season, starting in half of those games.
Being a Rangers fan, he must be delighted that he is still getting a decent amount of playing opportunities. The midfielder is known for failing an exam in 2008 as he was travelling to Manchester to watch Rangers in the UEFA Cup final.
The 27-year-old considers wearing the jersey as an honour everytime he gets game time, and one can see him being one of the most dedicated players on the pitch. He added further,”I’m enjoying it(Getting in the first team). It’s all be positive so far, but there is still a long way to go. Any time I get into the team it is a huge honour.”
Gerrard’s impact has been clear, and the former Liverpool midfielder has brought a lot of optimism around the club. They are still unbeaten in Europe after ten games and all the players have spoken highly of the gaffer on how he has managed to change the mood around the Ibrox.
With so much competition in the middle of the park, Halliday would have to keep on impressing when he is called upon. The Scotsman’s game time is going to be limited, but he doesn’t seem to be complaining and feels happy that he is in the reckoning for a starting place. Gerrard has definitely revived his career at Glasgow which looked over after he was sent on loan last year.
