Tottenham Hotspur have begun their domestic campaign relatively well and are currently occupying the 5th spot of the Premier League standings following a hard-earned home victory against Cardiff City earlier this month. However, the North London outfit are still pointless in the UEFA Champions League so far after suffering back to back losses against Inter Milan and Barcelona respectively.
Spurs have been leaking goals at the back in recent weeks which has mainly been down to some poor defending by their full-backs. Kieran Trippier has often been used as the club’s first choice right back by Mauricio Pochettino. Despite his excellent contributions going forward, he has been guilty of making a few errors defensively which could be a cause for concern.
First-Team Frustrations For Walker-Peters
Serge Aurier has also got a few starts under his belt for Spurs this season. However, one man who has fallen down the pecking order at North London is Kyle Walker-Peters. The 21-year-old managed to break into the Tottenham first-team last season, making nine appearances under Pochettino across all competitions while scoring one goal and grabbing two assists. However, he has still not featured for the North London giants in this campaign which has thrown his future in doubt.
What Does He Offer To Pochettino’s Side?
The English prospect is very quick and agile which helps him defend effectively in his half. He is also a good dribbler with the ball and always puts on a shift down the right flank. There are still a lot of areas of his game which he could improve over the coming years to become an established right-back in the Premier League.
What Does The Future Hold For The English Prospect?
Kyle Walker-Peters is a reliable option for the right-back position but he does not possess the attacking talents of Trippier or Aurier which is why he has been starved of first-team opportunities this season. Maybe, a move either on loan or permanently away from Spurs might be the English youngster’s best option if he wants to reignite his football career and come back stronger than ever next season.
At 21, the London born defender has massive potential and could turn out to be a fantastic full-back in England, but for now, the best move for him would be to switch clubs in search of more game time somewhere else.
