Liverpool have made a superb start to their Premier League campaign and find themselves in the 3rd spot of the league table following back to back draws against Chelsea and Manchester City respectively. Surprisingly, it has been the Reds’ defenders who have outshined their attack so far this season with the Merseyside club currently holding the joint-best defensive record in the English top-flight.
Origi’s Dire Situation At Merseyside
Despite their recent worries in front of goal, Jurgen Klopp has decided to stick with the same front three comprised of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino with the German boss also opting for the services of Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri from the bench. However, both Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke have become victims of Liverpool’s massive squad depth with the attacking duo still waiting to make their first appearance for the Reds this season.
Origi has featured in just one Premier League 2 match for the club’s Under-23 team so far. However, it is worth noting that the Belgian international put on a fantastic display during that game as he scored a goal and secured an assist. His failure to go out on loan earlier this summer could harm his football career in the long-run as he is currently at the fringes of Klopp’s squad at Anfield.
What Can The Belgian Striker Add To Klopp’s Team?
Origi is blessed with blistering pace and can hold up the ball up quite effectively using his strong upper frame. He also can dribble with the ball out of tight spaces which helps him beat his marker on one-on-one scenarios.
However, despite so much potential, the Belgian centre-forward does not have a prolific goal-scoring record as evidenced by his time at VfL Wolfsburg last season where he registered just seven goals and provided three assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
Does Origi Have A Future With Liverpool?
At 23, Origi still has time to reignite his career by gaining regular first-team minutes at the highest level which he is unlikely to get at Anfield. Hence, it might be best for all parties if he is sold in the upcoming transfer window which is set to open in January.
