Tottenham Hotspur have made a solid start in the Premier League and currently find themselves in the 5th spot of the league table following another hard-fought home win against Cardiff City in the previous gameweek. However, Spurs have lost both their matches in the UEFA Champions League so far after failing to avoid defeats against Inter Milan and Barcelona respectively.
Juan Foyth: The Forgotten Man
The North London giants have impressed sporadically throughout this campaign and it is safe to say that none of their players have managed to perform consistently so far. One player who has often been overlooked by Mauricio Pochettino in recent times has been Juan Foyth.
The Argentine defensive ace is yet to make an appearance for Tottenham this season and has fallen down the pecking order with Pochettino preferring to opt for Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen ahead of him to play at centre-back.
Even Eric Dier, who is a central midfielder by trade, has been used as a makeshift centre-half on a few occasions which would disappoint Foyth as he looks to earn more first-team opportunities this season. Maybe, a move away from North London will be an ideal solution for all parties as the Argentine centre-back is in dire need of more game time so that he can reignite his football career.
What Does The Argentine Defender Add To Pochettino’s Team?
The South-American talent is a well-rounded central defender who knows how to play out from the back and is suited to play a high line as he has enough pace in his tank to recover in one-on-one situations.
The Argentine youngster also has a great leap for a 6 ft 1-inch defender, but his strength needs to improve if he is going to prove his value in English football, especially in the Premier League, which is known for its physicality and high intensity.
Does Foyth Have A Future With Spurs?
His style of play is a lot like how John Stones operates in Pep Guardiola’s backline at Manchester City. However, he still has a long way to go if he wants to establish himself as a Premier League starter. However, for the time being, departing the North London club either on a loan deal or a permanent basis should be his number one priority if he wants what is best for his career.
