Barcelona are currently in the second spot of the La Liga standings, just one point behind table-toppers Sevilla, having played eight league matches so far. The Catalans are winless in their last four La Liga fixtures after shipping in six goals during that time. Ernesto Valverde needs to turn their fortunes around for the better over the next few weeks if he wants his side to be successful this season.
With the winter transfer window set to reopen in January, let’s take a look at three players Barca should consider recruiting to help them win some silverware at the end of this campaign.
Matthijs de Ligt
The AFC Ajax academy graduate has put in some excellent displays during this season. At the tender age of 19, the Dutch centre-back has managed to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Johan Cruyff Arena and has become a solid presence at the back for the Dutch Eredivisie giants. Valverde should consider luring him to Catalunya as he has massive potential and can be developed into a future star at the Nou Camp.
The Catalans need to build a team for the future so the Ajax starlet would be an ideal fit for his side as he can help them be even more successful in the coming years.
Timo Werner
The 22-year-old German centre-forward lit up the Bundesliga with some match-winning performances for RB Leipzig last season. He has similarly started this campaign scoring four goals and providing two assists in nine matches for the Bundesliga club.
Werner has a lot of potential and could be nurtured into one of the best strikers in European football if given the opportunity to showcase his talents for a big club like Barcelona.
Koke
The Atletico Madrid midfield star would be a perfect fit for Valverde’s style of play at the Nou Camp. He is a class act at the centre of the pitch and has enjoyed a solid start to this campaign so far, after registering three goals and creating one assist in 11 appearances for Diego Simeone’s team across all competitions.
At 26, Koke is currently playing at his peak which is why the Catalans should look to bring him in during the winter transfer window as they could benefit from his presence in midfield over the next few years.
