Former Arsenal player Alexander Hleb has admitted that he regrets leaving Arsenal to join Barcelona. Hleb won the 2008 Champions League with the Catalans but personally, didn’t have a good time at Camp Nou.
Hleb was one of the mainstays during his three years stint with Arsenal. He failed to replicate his form with the Catalans and as a result had to be loaned to a number of clubs. The 35-year old has played 131 games for The Gunners. The Belarus international was signed from German side Stuttgart in 2005.
He said, “I was playing at the top of my game in London and it was the best moments of my career. In my first season we got to the Champions League final. We lost, but I remember this final more than the other one when I won with Barcelona in 2009, but I didn’t play.”
“On the one hand I regret that I did not stay at Arsenal. Wenger was like a father to me and trusted me. I get sad when I start to think about this.” He revealed.
Hleb who only appeared 36 times for Barcelona went on to add, “On the other hand, Barcelona was and still is the strongest club. I did not play that often, but I still got game time.”
