Celtic have had a dodgy start to the season, but it’s still early days, and things can turn for the better as the season goes by. Mikael Lustig, the 31-year-old fullback believes that his side’s last victory against St. Johnstone could act as a catalyst this season from the times where they have often found it tough to dismantle teams.
The Hoops blew their rivals away by scoring five goals in the first half, and one got the glimpses of what Brendan Rodgers’ side can do when they are at their very best. However, the key here is to continue that kind of display after the international break.
Lustig recently said,”If you lose a game, and then go away on international duty, it’s hard because you want to play straight away. But at the same time, when we play really well like we did against St Johnstone, of course we want to keep that going. Now we’ll go away, hopefully, all the boys stay fit and we’ll come back and be ready for Hibs. Every game is a big game, it’s a really tight league at the moment, so it’s a big game and hopefully, we can keep the good form going.”
The 31-year-old fullback was captaining the side in place of Scott Brown who was missing due to injury. The Hoops are set to enter a crucial phase of the season as they have three big games lined up back to back. They take on Hibernian, last season’s Europa League quarterfinalist RB Leipzig and current table toppers Hearts Of Midlothian in League Cup semi-final next. It’s fair to say these fixtures can make or break Celtic’s season as both Hibernian and Hearts are the teams who are sitting ahead of Celtic at the moment and they need a good result in Europe after suffering a loss in the last game.
A poor summer transfer window has taken a toll on the team and it’s clear that the side needs some signings to reinforce them. However, up until January, Rodgers would hope that they are in the touching distance of the title and with a good transfer window, they can look to take the title home once again.
The Celtic players should still have that winning mentality which should give them the edge over other their rivals as the likes of Hearts, Hibernian and Rangers haven’t been in title situations for quite some time now. Positive results in the next three games can announce Celtic’s arrival this season and it would very much show that they are still the team to beat when it comes to the domestic league.
Good performances in the next three games would put them right where they belong and the Hoops faithful could be laughing on the critics’ faces who have slammed their team off late for their downward spiral and have been talking about the team losing its invincibility aura.
