Manchester United have made a poor start to their Premier League campaign this season following some surprise losses both at home and on the road. The Red Devils need to improve drastically over the international break and come back stronger than ever if they want to have any chance of beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge later this month.
The form of some of their forwards have been questionable. The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku, and Alexis Sanchez have all failed to deliver consistently in high-pressure situations, and that is why United find themselves in the 8th spot of the Premier League table.
Lukaku’s Recent Form: A Cause For Concern?
Lukaku was United’s main threat going forward last season, but he is looking like a shadow of his former self. The Belgian talent has scored just four goals in 11 appearances under Jose Mourinho this term across all competitions. His goal-scoring record is still not that bad but the fact that he has squandered so many great opportunities to score this season would be a significant cause for concern.
The 25-year-old had just registered one goal against the top 6 sides last season which is another worry for Mourinho. The Belgian fails to deliver when the spotlight is on him in high-profile matches but has a good record against the ‘lesser’ sides of the Premier League.
Should Lukaku Be Dropped From Mourinho’s Starting XI?
With a whole host of talents such as Rashford, Martial or Sanchez to call upon, maybe it is time for the United boss to seriously consider replacing Lukaku so that it can spark a fire in him which might motivate him to score more goals in the near future.
For now, it is clear that if Lukaku fails to find the back of the net on a more consistent basis, he needs to be dropped so that some of the other young talents can get a run-out in Mourinho’s first-team. Infact, we believe that if the Belgian does not score in the next couple of games, he should be benched for a little while.
