Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has dismissed speculation linking his club with a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain wonderkid Kylian Mbappe. According to a recent report by Goal.com, the Citizens were linked with a massive £200m deal to bring the French starlet to the Etihad Stadium. However, the City boss has quicked put all the rumours to bed by revealing that he has no intention of signing the player.
In his press conference, ahead of Man City’s Champions League clash versus Hoffenheim, Guardiola weighed in on the rumours and said, “That is not going to happen,”
“Sometimes I don’t understand where the news comes from. Manchester City aren’t going to spend the money that Mbappe deserves, or that PSG deserves. PSG are not going to sell this kind of player to any other club in the world in the next years, I guess.
“That is not going to happen, Mbappe is not going to come here, we are not going to swap Raheem [Sterling] or another top player that we have.
“I don’t understand where sometimes the news comes from, I don’t understand it. People should be more respectful of PSG, respectful of Manchester City, for the players from PSG, for the players from Man City, they should have more respect.”
It is clear from the Spaniard’s words that he feels that the story was generated to fill the papers and there is no truth behind it. However, the Citizens were interested in securing a move for Mbappe in the past which could mean that the club can revisit the idea next summer, especially if PSG struggles to abide by UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
What Will Mbappe Bring To The Etihad Stadium?
Mbappe is a highly skilled attacker who knows how to score and create goals on a consistent basis. At the mere of 19, he has established himself as one of the best, if not the best, young talent in world football. He was instrumental behind France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup triumph and has also been successful with PSG last season.
The French forward boasts blistering pace and is one of the best dribblers in Europe. He can quickly change direction and has a bag of tricks in his locker to bamboozle any defender which makes him a priceless asset for PSG.
Was Guardiola Correct To Rule Out A Move For Mbappe?
Guardiola could use someone of Mbappe’s incredible talents at the Etihad Stadium so it would be foolish of him not to try and sign the youngster if the opportunity presents itself. However, for now, it is a wise move by the City manager to deny reports so that his team can concentrate on matters on the pitch.
