According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Aaron Ramsey could part ways with Arsenal at the end of this current campaign, with his contract at the Emirates Stadium set to run out next summer. It is understood that the Gunners midfield enforcer would not be forced out of the North London club during the winter transfer period despite being tagged ‘available in January. Ramsey might believe that he could receive better offers if he waits until he is a free agent next year.
The Welsh international has been an integral part of the Arsenal squad over the past few years, and it would be a shame for the Gunners fans to witness one of their stars leave the club for free, following the recent departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez. With Ramsey’s future looking uncertain at the Emirates Stadium, let’s take a look at three replacements for Unai Emery to consider.
Saúl Ñíguez (Atletico Madrid):
The Atletico Madrid talent has enjoyed a fantastic start to this campaign so far and has already put in a match-winning display for the Spanish giants in the UEFA Super Cup final versus Real Madrid. At 23, Saul still has his best years ahead of him which Emery’s team could look to benefit from, in the next few years. He would be a perfect replacement for Ramsey as he could add a lot of creativity and dynamism to the Gunners midfield.
Marco Verratti (PSG):
The French midfield star has been an ever-present feature in the Paris Saint-Germain midfield over the past few years and has excelled as a playmaker this season. Although Verratti is known for his defensive capabilities, he also has a habit of scoring and creating vital goals which make him a decent alternative for Ramsey.
Arturo Vidal (Barcelona):
The Chilean midfield veteran has a wealth of experience at the top level and was in majestic form for Bayern Munich over the past few campaigns. However, the 31-year-old decided to make a switch to Barcelona this summer in search of more challenging adventures. If Ramsey does end up leaving Arsenal, then Vidal will be an ideal replacement for the Welshman as he still has enough in his locker to perform at his peak for a few more years. The South American sensation is the type of player who can flourish under Emery at the heart of the Gunners midfield, making him a decent option for the London club.
