Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker, Stan Collymore has revealed that Chelsea should look to sell their Spanish striker, Alvaro Morata this summer and bring in a proven goal-scorer if they want to win the Premier League again. In his column for the Mirror, Collymore wrote,
“Until they cut their losses with Alvaro Morata and bring in a replacement who is going to score them 30-plus goals a season, then I don’t see them getting their hands on the Premier League trophy again anytime soon.”
It is evident from Collymore’s comments that he doesn’t fancy Morata to turn his career around at Stamford Bridge and expects Chelsea to replace him with a prolific goal-getter in January.
Morata’s Poor Form This Season
The Spaniard has just scored one goal in 7 appearances for the Pensioners and has recently been replaced by Olivier Giroud in Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI.
The 25-year-old is not getting any better with each game as evidenced by his dismal showing versus West Ham United last weekend when he came off the bench to miss a plethora of chances for the away side up top. Morata needs to find some form and start scoring goals soon. Otherwise, it could be curtains for his Chelsea career as Sarri might replace him with someone more capable and prolific.
What Value Does Morata Add To Chelsea?
Morata arrived at Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017 and had gone on to score 16 goals and create six assists in 55 appearances for the West London giants. His record at Stamford Bridge is not bad by any means. However, the Spaniard needs to score goals more often if he wants to prove himself at a big club like Chelsea.
The 25-year-old is very quick and can dribble with the ball out of tight spaces quite effectively. He also takes up some good positions in the final third and can finish with both feet. However, the Spanish talent has often been guilty of squandering a lot of chances which is why he needs to improve on his finishing if he wants to prove his worth in the Premier League.
Final Verdict:
Collymore has made a great point about Morata’s situation at Stamford Bridge. There is no doubt that the Spanish forward is living on borrowed time and needs to start producing the goods on the pitch or else be sold in January and be replaced by someone more capable in front of goal. Sarri should consider letting Morata leave in January and get a striker of ‘proven pedigree’.
