Everton have managed to make a steady start to the new campaign but have fallen off the pace in recent weeks after suffering back to back losses against West Ham United and Arsenal respectively. One of their main problem areas has been their striking department where the likes of Cenk Tosun, Oumar Niasse and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have failed to score goals on a consistent basis.
The Toffees are currently in the 12th spot in the Premier League table with just six points to their name after playing six league matches. What is even more worrying is their negative goal difference of -3 which Marco Silva needs to address if Everton are to climb back up the league table. The Merseyside club has scored just eight league goals this season with only one of them coming from their strikers.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the only forward to have found the back of the net in the league for the Toffees with Tosun and Niasse both waiting to score their first goal of this campaign. Here are three changes Marco Silva could make to solve his team’s goal-scoring woes in the attacking third.
Play Theo Walcott Or Richarlison As A Centre-Forward
Silva could think about playing either Walcott or Richarlison as a centre-forward. Both wingers have been in a rich vein of form during this season and playing them in a free role up top might bring more goals to this Everton side which could help them climb up the league table.
Walcott has previously been deployed as a striker and knows how to play in that position but Richarlison, on the other hand, has never been used as a primary target man up top so he might take some time adapting his game to suit the new role.
Deploy Gylfi Sigurdsson As A False-9 Forward
Sigurdsson is quite capable when asked to play in the number 10 role as his game is tailor-made for that position. Marco Silva should think about playing him more centrally up top as he has the capability to find the back of the net on a weekly basis. Moreover, his off the ball work ethic might also help the Toffees defend from the front which makes it an ideal option for Silva to consider.
Bring Back Cenk Tosun Into The Everton Starting XI
Silva can also consider bringing back Tosun and handing him a start in the coming weeks with the hope that the Turkish forward would have a change in fortune and start scoring goals sooner rather than later. It might be risky to do so, but Tosun has proven in the past that he can score goals regularly when he is confident, and that is why it is also another option for the Everton boss to ponder on.
