Liverpool have made a perfect start to this campaign after emerging victorious in all seven of their matches in all competitions. However, it has been a tough season for the likes of Divock Origi as it does not seem like he is close to breaking into the Reds first-team as he has not featured in Jurgen Klopp’s plans so far. The Belgian international is yet to be involved in any of Liverpool’s match-day squads and has a long way to go if he wants to feature for the Merseyside heavyweights on a weekly basis.
Origi’s Current Situation At Anfield
The 23-year-old striker has featured in just one Premier League 2 match for the club’s Under-23 team. However, the Belgian put on an impressive showing as he scored a goal and secured an assist during that encounter. His failure to go out on loan last summer could harm his career in the long-run as he is currently an the fringes at Anfield. He is behind the likes of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in the pecking order.
Origi needs to go out on loan in January if he wants to get his career back on track. Otherwise, the Belgian might be in for a frustrating season at Liverpool. He is currently not good enough to play for Klopp’s senior team so making a switch away from Merseyside could be his best chance to reignite his career.
What Does The Belgian Forward Offer To Liverpool?
Origi is blessed with outstanding pace and can hold up the ball well using his strength. He also can dribble with the ball effectively out of tight spaces which helps him beat defenders on 1v1 situations. However, despite so much talent, he does not have a prolific goal-scoring record as evidenced by his time at VfL Wolfsburg last season where he scored seven goals and made three assists in 36 matches across all competitions.
At the mere age of 23, the Belgian still has a lot of time to develop into a world-class centre-forward, but the Liverpool ace needs to play football regularly if he wants to break into Klopp’s first-team shortly. For now, Origi should keep his head down and work on how to improve his overall game to be more productive in the final third.
Verdict:
As of this moment, it doesn’t seem likely that Origi will feature in Klopp’s starting XI any time soon. However, if he shows signs of improvement, then his situation at Anfield might change for the better. Barring injuries to the likes of Firmino or Sturridge, it is tough to see how Origi gets a chance in the first team.
