Everton went head to head with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier today hoping to bounce back from their bitter loss at home to West Ham United last weekend. The Toffees started the match on the front foot and created some great opportunities to score in the first half. However, they couldn’t capitalise on those chances and went in level at half-time.
The Gunners began to dominate more in the second half and scored two quickfire goals through Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Marco Silva’s men failed to respond as the match fizzled out of their hands. The contest finished 2-0 in favour of the North London giants.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the encounter against the Gunners.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6/10
He made some good saves during the game but failed to prevent the home team from scoring.
RB: Jonjoe Kenny – 5/10
The right-back struggled to cope with the threat of Aubameyang and hardly made any impact going forward.
CB: Michael Keane – 6.5/10
He made some well-timed challenges during the contest but had a tough time dealing with Arsenal’s movement in the second half.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 5/10
He was at fault for the Gunners’ second goal which left his team with a mountain to climb in the second half.
LB: Lucas Digne – 6/10
He linked up well in the opposition half and looked a decent threat going forward.
CM: Idrissa Gueye – 6/10
He worked hard for the Toffees in the first half but was left helpless when his team went behind, and all of his good work was undone.
CM: Tom Davies – 5/10
He struggled to cope with the pace of the game and looked average at both ends of the pitch.
RM: Theo Walcott – 6/10
His pace caused the Gunners defence a lot of problems. However, the English speedster lacked the finishing touch in the attacking third.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6/10
He created some good chances for his teammates but was not a goal threat himself from long range.
LM: Richarlison – 7/10
The Brazilian was Everton’s best attacking threat on the pitch. He tried to conjure up a goal but was denied time and again by Petr Cech.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 5.5/10
He worked tirelessly for the Merseyside outfit but was unable to make any real impact inside the Arsenal penalty box.
Substitutes:
CAM: Bernard – 6/10
He couldn’t do much going forward in the final quarter of the game.
ST: Cenk Tosun – 6/10
The Turkish forward is lacking confidence, and it showed during his time on the pitch as he hardly made any impact after coming off the bench.
