Manchester United would entertain Derby County at Old Trafford on Tuesday night hoping to progress into the next round of the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend so Jose Mourinho would hope that his players can bounce back and earn a win against the Rams in midweek.
It is expected that the United boss would opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might make a whole host of changes for this encounter. However, the likes of Marcus Rashford and Nemanja Matic could be in line to start after they missed this weekend’s league match against Wolves due to suspension.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Derby County
Defence
Sergio Romero should make a rare start in Mourinho’s first XI for this League Cup against the Rams. The Argentine keeper was injured earlier this season but is currently back to full fitness and would be ready to start on Tuesday night. He has a wealth of experience of playing at the highest level and so, he won’t have any problems slotting in between the sticks for the Red Devils in midweek.
The centre-back pairing comprised of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly will line up at the heart of the United defence while Ashley Young plays as a makeshift left-back. Diogo Dalot could start as the right-back after putting in an impressive display versus Young Boys last week.
Midfield
Mourinho could opt to bring back Nemanja Matic in midfield after he missed the match against Wolves due to suspension. Both Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay might accompany the Serbian midfielder at the middle of the pitch. The trio would need to perform well under pressure and establish United’s dominance in the contest.
Attack
Man United are expected to line up with a frontline of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata. The trio has been subjected to limited first-team opportunities so far this season so this game against Derby County could serve as an ideal opportunity for them to prove their worth and stake a claim in Mourinho’s first XI on a regular basis.
Both Rashford and Martial would look to use their pace to get behind the Rams defence while Mata sits deep and operates as a facilitator.
