What has gone at West Ham United this season? This will be a big question and a common one too and why not! The season the Hammers had last time out, expectations had to be big this campaign. Switching to a bigger home venue in the London Stadium, a chance to make it to the Europa League group stage, West Ham had their chance to use this season as one where they could introduce themselves as a major force in England. They have failed to take their chance and have been miserable so far. However, picking their strongest possible squad is still a tricky task looking at the players they have in every position.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
West Ham are yet to find out the best chemistry in their side. The results are not going their way while a number of key players are injured. However, we believe they will offer their best in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Defence
Adrian will be the man under the bar in West Ham’s strongest possible XI ahead of Darren Randolph. Who would be right-back in the strongest XI? Young Sam Byram, experienced Alvaro Arbeloa who is past his peak or makeshift right-back Michail Antonio? We would go for Antonio. The Englishman has been impressive in front of the goal but with players like Sofiane Feghouli, Gokhan Tore available on the right flank, he has to settle for a place in defence.
Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna will be the two at the heart of the defence. Aaron Cresswell will easily take up the place at the left side of the back four when back from his injury.
Midfield
Skipper Mark Noble will easily make the strongest XI in the middle of the park with his eye for a pass and creativity. We would go for Havard Nordtveit alongside Noble ahead of Cheikhou Kouyate. The latter has been disappointing this season and Nordtveit offers much more defensive discipline when compared to the Senegalese.
Attack
Dimitri Payet will play number ten in our strongest XI. West Ham’s club record signing Andre Ayew will be the left winger while Sofiane Feghouli will be on duty on the opposite flank. The likes of Manuel Lanzini, Gokhan Tore are all solid options, though.
Andy Carroll has been missed badly by the Hammers from the start of the season due to injuries. The club is struggling for goals and none among of Zaza, Calleri or Fletcher has managed to threaten the opposition defences. Carroll easily makes our strongest XI.
