Liverpool have made a bright start to their league campaign and would now go into a tough run of fixtures across all competitions in the coming weeks. It all begins with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend where Jurgen Klopp’s side had a nightmare outing in their last visit to the Wembley Stadium. Spurs thumped the Reds 4-1 in this same fixture last season which the Merseyside giants would look to correct this time around.
Both teams are in a good run of form, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men suffered a disappointing defeat away at Watford earlier this month and would have their own motivation to bounce back against the Reds. With no fresh injury concerns to worry about, here are three changes Klopp could look to make so that Liverpool can come away with all three points from Wembley this weekend.
Bring Naby Keita Into The Reds First Team
Klopp decided to start with Jordan Henderson in place of Naby Keita in the previous gameweek. However, his plan backfired in the second half when the Reds failed to dominate possession which gave Leicester City enough impetus to try and find a way back into the game. Hence, the German head coach should start with Keita in his starting XI so that Liverpool have enough creativity in midfield to topple Spurs on Saturday afternoon.
Make Sure To Start The Game With A High Tempo
Liverpool have developed a reputation of starting games on the front foot before the opposition side has time to settle into the rhythm of the game. Klopp needs to make sure that every one of his players in the first-team begins the game with a high tempo so that they can hit Spurs before the home side can get a foothold in the game.
Opting for a combination of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita in midfield could help Klopp’s team press high up the pitch early on which is exactly what the Reds need, to gain an early advantage in this encounter.
Play Mohamed Salah In A More Central Role
The Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah has had a mediocre start to the season and needs to be more involved against Spurs if he wants to be productive in the final third. Playing Salah out wide has not worked so far, hence, interchanging him with Roberto Firmino up top could be the way to go as both players are quite accustomed at playing out of their natural position and still making it work during any given match.
Firmino could rotate with Salah and Sadio Mane so that there is enough movement up top for the likes of Keita and Milner to create some opportunities during the match.
