Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is recovering well from the serious injury which he suffered in a home match against AS Roma back in April. The Reds talent is still quite positive about the way his rehabilitation is progressing despite being ruled out for the bulk of this season. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, as reported by the club’s official website, the 25-year-old shed some light on his situation and was quoted to have said, “It is a very serious injury,”
“It can happen to any of us at any time and that’s obviously something that’s never easy to deal with and get over.
“I’m trying to stay positive, that’s the sort of character I am. I feel that’s the best way to move things forward. I’m in good spirits and I’m progressing for sure.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s words are welcome news to everyone associated with Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s side are in dire need of more midfield options with the Reds looking to compete on all four fronts during this campaign. It is no secret that the Merseyside club lacks his driving runs from midfield nowadays, but with James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Fabinho all fit and available for selection, Klopp has enough cover in the central midfield position.
However, it would help if Oxlade-Chamberlain can play some part for Liverpool in the second half of the season so that he can come in and add more competition for places within the Reds squad. The English sensation boasts incredible pace and can dribble with the ball to make some darting runs from midfield behind the opposition defences.
Since making a switch to Anfield in the summer of 2017, the English speedster has made 42 appearances under Klopp, finding the back of the net five times while grabbing eight assists in all competitions. The former Arsenal winger adds another dimension to Klopp’s attack as evidenced by his record from last season which makes him a big miss for the Merseyside outfit.
The fact that Oxlade-Chamberlain has made a lot of progress and is still in good spirits would be a big boost for Liverpool as he can again play a decisive role during the business end of the season. Having a player like ‘The Ox’ available for selection could improve the Reds’ hopes of landing a silverware even more as long as he can continue with his rapid rehabilitation from injury.
