In a recent interview with Yenisafak, as reported by SportWitness, Everton striker Cenk Tosun revealed that he enjoys playing football under the stewardship of Marco Silva. When asked to weigh in on the club’s progress under their new manager, Tosun said, “The club has made good transfers. Well, they’re good, they’re adapting. Our manager changed, there is a younger, hungry coach. He plays an offensive game. Of course, this is my business. This year we play football a little better.”
Everton’s Rapid Rise Under Marco Silva
The Toffees are still unbeaten in the Premier League after drawing three and winning one of their four Premier League matches so far. The Merseyside club has been a subject of some disciplinary concerns as two of their players have been sent off during the season so far. Phil Jagielka was given his marching orders in the opening match of the season while Richarlison also saw a red card against Bournemouth last month. However, the Blues are still unbeaten and have managed to show great character through some of their gritty performances until now.
They look a formidable force going forward despite Tosun’s recent dry spell in front of goal. However, Silva still needs to address his defensive problems if he wants his team to challenge for a top 6 spot this season.
Tosun’s Recent Misery
The Turkish forward has featured in all five of Everton’s matches across all competitions but has just two assists to show for his efforts. He has worked hard for his team but is looking like a striker out of form. The 27-year-old needs to get his confidence back on track and should start taking some of the opportunities that fall in his path.
Tosun was a prolific goal-scorer in Turkey, and he also enjoyed a successful run of games for the Toffees towards the latter stages of the previous campaign. Silva would be hoping that the Wetzlar born frontman can turn things around for the better or else face the axe, especially after the recent goal-scoring heroics of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
When Will His Goal Drought End?
Tosun will have an excellent opportunity to break his duck in the upcoming home clash versus West Ham United. So that match would serve as the perfect opportunity for the Turkish striker to justify his worth once again in Marco Silva’s team. Otherwise, he might be benched soon as both Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse are eagerly waiting for a chance to prove themselves under the new Everton boss.
