Liverpool have been in majestic form so far this season after winning their first four matches in the Premier League. However, to the surprise of many, their last three victories have been based on strong defensive performances. The front three of Liverpool have still not fired on all cylinders despite the Reds’ recent success.
Except for Sadio Mane, both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have struggled in front of goal with just three goals between them in four league fixtures. However, they have been busy creating chances for the likes of Mane and Milner to thrive on! The pair has made four assists which clearly shows how selfless Jurgen Klopp’s players are right now.
Firmino’s form has been poor in the first few matches, but the Brazilian came alive in the last game against Leicester City when he scored with a header just before the half-time break. This gave Liverpool enough cushion to go out and snatch a hard-fought victory at the King Power Stadium last Saturday afternoon.
Here are a few reasons why we could see the best out of Firmino in the coming weeks.
Big Players Flourish During Big Games
Liverpool are to embark upon a tough run of fixtures which includes a trip to Tottenham Hotspur before hosting Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League. The Reds would also face the likes of Chelsea twice before travelling to Italy to take on Napoli while a home fixture against Manchester City is also looming on the horizon.
With so many important matches coming up against some of the biggest sides in European football, we can expect some of Liverpool’s star players to step up and deliver. Firmino had already proven his worth in the past when he scored in big match situations, and there is no reason why he cannot do the same again in the coming weeks.
Liverpool Will Only Get Better Going Forward
Everyone associated with the Merseyside club knows that they have been far from their best going forward, yet the Redmen have managed to claim four wins in a row. The realistic possibility that Klopp’s side would get even better when things start to click for Firmino and Salah in the final third is a scary one for the opposing teams as Liverpool have already displayed their excellent defensive prowess during this campaign.
A Well-Rested Firmino = More Goals And Assists
The international break will be a welcome one for players such as Firmino who have had a long summer after participating for his nation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Brazilian sensation can use this mini-break to regain his sharpness so that he can come back fresh and start scoring goals on a more consistent basis.
