Everton have made a steady start to their new Premier League campaign and remain unbeaten in the English top-flight following this weekend’s draw against Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park. However, Marco Silva’s team suffered a massive casualty when Theo Walcott was taken off in the 57th minute of that game due to a severe injury, which could keep him out of action in the coming weeks.
The 29-year-old began this season on a positive note scoring a goal and set up another during their opening game against Southampton at home. He also found the back of the net against Bournemouth and promised to be one of Everton’s star players in the absence of the suspended Richarlison. However, the recent injury could disrupt his rhythm, and it could take some time for Walcott to return and be back at his best for the Toffees.
Alternatives At Marco Silva’s Disposal
Ademola Lookman came on in place of the injured English winger during Everton’s match against the Terriers on Saturday afternoon, which could be a sign of things to come. Marco Silva can also opt for the services of Bernard or take a more attacking approach by reverting to a 4-4-2 formation and playing Oumar Niasse alongside Cenk Tosun up top. There are many options at Silva’s disposal, so he needs to choose wisely to keep up their decent start to the campaign.
The Fixtures Walcott Could Miss
Everton have a home fixture against West Ham United after the international break which is followed by a trip to the Emirates Stadium and then a League Cup tie against Southampton at Goodison Park. Walcott could potentially miss out on all three of these fixtures. The exact extent of his injury is yet to be revealed, which could be a massive blow for the Merseyside outfit.
Can The Toffees Cope With His Absence?
Silva could replace Walcott with a number of players so it shouldn’t be a problem for the Toffees to cope with his injury. Moreover, Richarlison is also set to return soon, which would help soften the blow. It cannot be denied that the pace of Walcott down the right flank could be a big miss for Everton as he added Silva’s attack another dimension which only a handful of players can offer.
