Tottenham Hotspur had begun their new Premier League campaign with three wins on the spin (and then the one loss yesterday Vs Watford), and one of the main reasons for their recent success has been the rapid emergence of Lucas Moura. The Brazilian midfielder has already made his mark on this season after scoring three goals in his first three starts for Spurs.
Majestic Moura At Old Trafford
The highlight of his career in England came in last Monday night’s match against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Moura scored two goals in the second half to make sure that his team came away with all three points from the heavyweight contest. Both of his goals came when he dribbled towards the heart of the United defence and beat David De Gea with well-placed finishes.
Welcome To The Premier League, Lucas!
With Heung-min Son away on international duty, Spurs have now got a worthy replacement who has taken the Premier League by storm over the past few weeks. He has come from the fringes and has become one of the first names in Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet.
The Brazilian attacker arrived from Paris Saint-Germain at the start of this year in search of regular first-team opportunities. Although, it took some time for him to break into Pochettino’s first team, yet the 26-year-old is finally showing this season that he can be a consistent performer if given a regular run of games at the highest level.
What Does The Brazilian Offer To Spurs?
Moura is quite versatile and can play anywhere across the frontline which makes him capable enough to combine and swap positions with Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, and Harry Kane during a match. He has been exceptional under Pochettino’s tutelage this season and has been a constant attacking outlet down the right side of the midfield.
The Sao Paulo academy product boasts incredible pace and can dribble with the ball quite effectively leaving defenders along the way to bite the dust as evidenced by his second goal versus the Red Devils last Monday night. He can also link up play well with his teammates and has a habit of scoring and creating important goals.
Things To Work On
However, Moura can be selfish at times while he also needs to work on his physical attributes to continue being a success in the top tier of English football. There is no doubt that Spurs would benefit from having him fit and firing on all cylinders but only time will tell whether the Brazilian can keep up the same level of performance throughout the whole campaign.
If he can do so, then there is no reason why the North London outfit cannot win a trophy at the end of this season.
