Watford have had a perfect start to this season as they have won all of their four games in all competitions. They have gone past sides like Brighton, Burnley and Crystal Palace in the Premier League with relative ease. Javi Gracia has managed to turn the tide in the preseasons as the Hornets ended their last campaign badly and the pressure was mounting on them. They have looked sharp and refreshing in the first three games of the season and the fans at Vicarage Road would be expecting the same against Spurs who are coming on the back of a thumping win against Manchester United.
The defence would need to bring their ‘A game’ as they come up against Lucas Moura and Harry Kane who have looked threatening. The Hornets don’t have the best of records against their North London rivals as Spurs are yet to be beaten by them since October 1994.
Team News
Tom Cleverley seems like the only one who would be unavailable for this tie due to injury. Nathaniel Chalobah and Miguel Britos are expected to recover from their minor injury issues in time for this key encounter.
Watford Predicted Lineup Vs Tottenham Hotspur
Formation (4-4-2)
Defence
Former West Brom keeper Ben Foster has been as safe as houses in goal for the Hornets, and he would start in the goal. Christian Kabasele and Craig George Cathcart would form the centre-back pairing. They have done well so far, but they will have to do exceptionally well if they want to keep things tight against Spurs. Jose Holebas and Daryl Janmaat will reprise their usual fullback roles.
Midfield
Abdoulaye Doucouré and Etienne Capoue will start just in front of the defence. Doucoure was a revelation last season as he contributed well on the offensive front. However, he needs to do his defensive duty diligently in this encounter against Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side.
Down the right, Will Hughes would start and on the left, it would be Roberto Pereyra. Pereyra has so far managed three goals in 3 appearances, and we often see him drift inside down the left flank. Both of them would have to track back in this game to take care of Spurs’ fullbacks.
Attack
Starting with two strikers in Andre Gray and Troy Deeney would be an ambitious selection against a team like Spurs, but so far they have got the results doing that, and we don’t expect Gracia to change with the winning combination much.
