Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a mixed start to their season after drawing both their matches at home against Everton and Manchester City respectively while suffering a 2-0 defeat at Leicester City in the previous gameweek.
Despite struggling to pick up points so far, Nuno Espirito Santo has impressed a lot of people with their free-flowing, attacking style of football and the early signs have been promising enough for us to suggest that they would not be dragged in a relegation dogfight later this season.
New Signings Bring Renewed Optimism?
Wolves were one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window as Nuno Santo was able to sign as many as 10 new players in the off-season. Most of his new arrivals have managed to establish themselves in his squad and some of them have already shown signs of promise in the first three league matches of the campaign.
Players such as Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez have made a huge impact since arriving at the Molineaux Stadium. Moutinho conjured up with a handy assist against Manchester City while Jimenez has already found the back of the net against Everton in the opening weekend of the season.
The permanent signings of Diogo Jota and Willy Boly would also help the West Midlands club strive for excellence and compete with the best teams of the Premier League.
The Midfield Duo Of Neves And Moutinho Will Be Key To Their Success
Wolves arguably have one of the best midfield partnership in the English top-flight. Both Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho look like they can stand up against the best players of the Premier League and still manage to come away unscathed. The Portuguese duo might not be known for their defensive game but they do help shield Santo’s backline effectively while their creativity and passing in midfield are amongst the best that the league has to offer.
Neves is also a long-range goal-threat and has scored some spectacular goals from outside the box during his career. He has got his name amongst the goal-scorers against Everton with an excellent free-kick and is only getting better with age. Moutinho also brings a lot of experience to this young Wolves side, and his understanding with Neves would be integral if the West Midlands side are to finish in the top half of the league table at the end of the season.
Can Wolves Compete With The Best Teams Of The Premier League?
We can expect Nuno Santo’s team to give any team a good run for their money as evidenced by their performances so far. Wolves need to pick up a lot of points at the Molineux Stadium if they are to claim a top half finish. A top 6 spot might just be a step too far for them but a top 10 finish should be well within their grasp.
