Manchester United will be handed their biggest boost of the season as David De Gea is soon going to be given a new contract. It is said to be a mere formality that he will commit his long-term future after the fact that Real Madrid would finally stop their pursuit of him as they signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea. The Red Devils had failed to land their targets in the summer and have already suffered a defeat from the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion so this piece of news will come as a breath of fresh air to United faithful.
The Spaniard has quite easily been the standout player for United in the past few years or so and if not for him, they would have been struggling in the mid tables of the English Premier League. His performances for the Spanish national team has come under question but he seems like a different monster whenever he turns out for United.
Keeping hold of De Gea will be the biggest achievement for Ed Woodward since he took over the role of Chief Executive. Everyone once thought that the goalkeeper was gone for all money in the 2015 transfer window, but the Spaniard stayed put at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is already facing the heat after just two games and he will be a relieved man knowing that his star goalkeeper isn’t going anywhere. He has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the World in the past few years and one can only imagine how much moolah he would have fetched in the transfer market knowing someone like Kepa Arrizabalaga came for £71m.
