If the reports from Daily Star are to believed then, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are both after Chelsea‘s left-back Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard has played under Julen Lopetegui before when he was with the Real Madrid B squad and it’s reported that he is keen to bring the defender back to Madrid. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid are looking for a replacement for Felipe Luis who is expected to join Paris Saint Germain.
Though it’s believed that Maurizio Sarri will not entertain any offers for the left-back as there is no chance for the Blues to get a replacement as the English transfer window has already shut down. Real Madrid are valuing the 27-year-old at £27m, however, it doesn’t seem enough for Sarri.
Alonso has so far played every minute of football which the Blues have played this season and he happens to be the first choice left back currently. He has been impressive for the Blues since he joined the club in 2016 as from then onwards, no other defender has directly been involved in more goals. Last weekend’s game against Arsenal was the perfect example as he scored a late winner and had earlier assisted one goal.
The Spaniard is known for his attacking prowess more than his defensive abilities and he was often caught out of position at the back against Arsenal. But Sarri doesn’t have any other decent alternatives so it makes sense for him to stick with the Spaniard for the time being.
Turning down Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will be tough as both of them will be playing in the Champions League but with no chance to bring in a replacement, we expect the Blues to keep hold of their left back
