Wolverhampton Wanderers will host defending champions Manchester City at the Molineux this weekend. Nuno Santo’s side are coming on the back of a defeat against Leicester City, and not many would expect them to come up with anything against the Citizens.
Nevertheless, they can give a good account of themselves in this game and test their resolve against one of the best teams in the world currently. They have registered just one point on the table so far but, they did show promise in their games against Everton and Leicester City. Against the Foxes, they were unlucky to not come up with anything as they hit the woodwork twice in that game. They would need all the luck in the world when they take on Pep Guardiola’s side.
Team News
Leander Dendoncker is back in training and could be in the reckoning for a start. Nuno Santo will have a strong squad to choose from as all his players are fit and available.
Formation (3-4-3)
3-4-3 Wolves Predicted Lineup Vs Manchester City
Defence
Portuguese international Rui Patricio will start in between the sticks. He will be protected by the back three of Conor Coady, Willy Boly and Leander Dendoncker. All three would need to be at their best as they are going to face a barrage of City attacks which put six past a hapless Huddersfield Town side in the previous encounter.
Midfield
Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho have been pulling strings in midfield, and Santo would be expected to start the duo in midfield. However, they would have to be at their best when they don’t have the ball. City would be expected to enjoy a whole lot of possession, and the Portuguese duo will have to do the nitty gritty job well in the middle of the park.
Out wide, they will be supported by Jonny Castro and Matt Doherty. Doherty was on the receiving end of a poor tackle from Jamie Vardy which resulted in a red card. However, he is expected to recover in time to feature in this crucial encounter against the Premier League pacesetters.
Attack
Diogo Jota will start down the left, and Adama Traore will make a case for himself to start on the right flank but we expect Helder Costa to keep his place. Raul Jimenez has looked threatening in the first two games, and he would be required to be at his best as he would get limited chances against Manchester City.
