According to the Express, Arsenal legend, Martin Keown has criticized new signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos for his awful defending in the last match against Chelsea. He said that the Greek defender could have done much better with his positioning during the second goal which saw Alvaro Morata score from a one on one position against Shkodran Mustafi.
Chelsea took on Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the biggest London derby of the season so far and it was a hard-fought affair between the two giants of the Premier League. The hosts scored two goals within the opening 20 minutes but the Gunners retaliated with two quickfire goals to bring the game on level terms. Marcos Alonso scored the third and decisive goal for Chelsea to hand them all the three points and their second win of the season.
Pedro opened the scoring for Chelsea while Morata struck the second. The inch-perfect cross from defender Cesar Azpilicueta found his compatriot in space without no one but the German defender around him.
However, as per Keown, Sokratis could have done better to stop the goal from being scored. He should have run back to help Mustafi and could have saved the day for his side. Keown said, “It’s messages, new messages from new managers and it’s not been picked upon,” he added, “It’s not been picked up on at all.
“You look how high the Arsenal players are here. Sokratis has got to come back there and pick up the first player.
“But he’s running in and already they’ve exposed the Arsenal defence.
“It’s great play from Morata there but the defending’s awful.
“You cannot leave Mustafi one v one in that situation.
