Ever since Steven Gerrard took the mantle of the top job at Rangers, stories of various Liverpool players linked with a move to Ibrox have been a dime a dozen. He has already secured the likes of Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent on loan and Jon Flanagan for free. Dominic Solanke happens to be another player who has been linked throughout the transfer window with Rangers, and we for one think Gerrard should go all in to bring the English striker on loan to Ibrox.
His chances would also be boosted by the fact that Solanke even failed to make the bench in the opening encounter against West Ham United in the Premier League. With Daniel Sturridge back to full fitness, it would be tough for the English youngster to break into the first eleven at Anfield.
The 20-year-old is the product of Chelsea’s academy and has been hugely successful at the youth level for the Three Lions. However, he has failed to replicate that form at the club level as he managed to score just one goal in the Premier League last season. Even in this year’s preseason, the forward struggled.
Solanke- The Complete No. 9
Now the Gers fans should question about his utility, provided his inability to get on Liverpool’s bench, but we for one think that he would be a massive signing for the Gers. Solanke can be termed as a traditional no.9, and he has everything to his game which a top striker needs. He is strong on the ball, good in the air, has a terrific work rate and a keen eye for a goal.
The young Englishman is struggling with confidence at this point. Last season, he might have made 21 appearances in the Premier League but, most of it came from the bench, and quite a few of them were just to run down the clock in the latter stages of the game.
Rangers Needs To Get In A Striker Like Solanke
After Josh Windass’ sale to Wigan Athletic, the Gers are going to miss his goals and attacking outlet upfront. Alfredo Morelos has been more or less impressive, but we feel that Solanke will be an upgrade over the Colombian striker. Liverpool still thinks of Solanke as a tremendous talent, and it is likely that they are not going to let him go on a permanent basis.
However, with Danny Ings already being loaned to Southampton and Divock Origi also linked with a move away from the club, the Merseyside club would be slightly sceptical of letting Solanke go, as we all know how fragile Daniel Sturridge can be.
With Umar Sadiq also waiting in the wings to get his chances, the Gers will have more than a decent strike force to choose from at this time. However, the signing of Solanke will not bode well for other strikers at the Ibrox, and it remains to be seen whether Gerrard would go in hard in the transfer market to land him.
Some people suspect his ability to even flourish even in the Scottish Premiership, but if he is given a good run of games and the manager shows confidence in him, the Englishman will come good at the Ibrox.
Our advice for the Gaffer: Go get him!
