Celtic‘s dismal run in the European competitions continues as they bow out in the qualification stage against Greek side AEK Athens. The reigning Scottish champions came into the match with everything hanging in the balance at 1-1 from the first leg played at the Celtic Park, with their fans looking for a better display from the Hoops in the second leg. However, all they had in store was disappointment as the domestic double treble winners from the last two seasons crashed out of the elite European tournament.
AEK opened the scoring via Rodrigo Brito Galo in the 5th minute of the match due to a major defensive lapse inside the box. However, they tried to recover and went on the counter-attack but to no avail. A second goal from the Greek side, this time Marko Livaja being the scorer, was enough for the Scottish giants to give up on their hope of making it into the Champions League this season. A late strike from substitute Scott Sinclair in the 78th minute was not good enough for the Hoops as they lost on the night and saw themselves ousted from the Champions League.
Celtic’s arch-rivals Rangers‘ fans, however, happened to make most of the reigning Scottish champions’ despair and took to the Twitter to give their reactions. The Celts have had a disappointing start to their title defence in Scotland, having lost their last match against Hearts whereas Rangers have won and drawn their first two matches in the competition so far. This has made their fans confident that they can take on Celtic head on this season and their reactions to their arch-rivals’ defeat in the Champions League qualifying stages state the same.
Some of the reactions are as follows.

Imagine Rangers and Celtic both make the group stages of the Europa league? How funny will it be watching mixed fans in neutral pubs at the same time waiting to see which ones go on the big screen and which have commentary? ??
