Everton have spent big in the last two years under the new ownership of Farhad Moshiri, and they would be expected to fight for a European spot in the ongoing campaign. Last season also there was a sense of optimism around the Merseyside club as they invested heavily and had a highly rated manager in Ronald Koeman at the club. However, things didn’t pan out as expected and the Dutch manager was shown the door after he left his side hovering around the relegation zone.
Suddenly everything started feeling similar, and the Toffees brought in Sam Allardyce to secure their future for that season. The veteran manager guided them to safety with comfort and managed to finish on a respectable eighth position. However, the fans were still dissatisfied with the style of play as they were longing to see an attacking and attractive brand of football.
It was quite apparent that the Toffees would go after Marco Silva after they decided to sack the former England manager. The Portuguese tactician is known to play fluent and attacking brand of football and has already shown his capabilities with clubs like Hull City and Watford. He often tries to work on making the home ground his fortress, and that is what he would be looking to do at Goodison Park as well.
The board has also backed him as they trusted his judgement in bringing in Richarlison from Watford. Silva had worked with the Brazilian from close quarters, and they didn’t have any hesitation in paying £44m for the forward. The decision paid rich dividends in the first game as the 21-year-old scored a brace against Wolves.
However, given the competition in the Premier League, there is still a long way to go for the Portuguese manager if he wants to challenge for the elite European spot, that is the Champions League. Though Europa league is a more realistic target, especially if one of the top six sides goes on to win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup as that allows even the seventh-placed team a spot in the qualifiers of the Europa League.
The top 6 already looks pre-destined, and if one practically thinks then Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur would be in them, and the other two spots are likely to be occupied by Arsenal and Chelsea even though they have undergone a managerial change after a poor season last time around.

Signing a lot of players in a short period of time definitely shows ambition from the club, but the manager often needs time to get his philosophy to work among the new set of players. If certain vital players like Gylfi Sigurdsson, Theo Walcott, Richarlison, Cenk Tosun, Jordan Pickford and Yerry Mina play to their utmost potential, we can hopefully see the Blues give others a run for their money for the sixth spot. But there still seems to be daylight regarding quality between the top six and others and Marco Silva would probably take one full season to stamp his authority on this bunch of talented players.
