According to Talksport, Manchester United‘s pursuit of a defender looks to bring out no results this summer. The Red Devils are reported to have tried to trigger the €25m release clause for the Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin, but it seems he is in no mood to make a move out of the Spanish club this summer.
Jose Mourinho has been far from satisfied with the display of his defensive lineup in the last term and has come out to criticise them several times. Players like Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been the target of his words, and the Portuguese boss has repeatedly voiced his demand for a top quality centre-back. He has his eyes on players like Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire, but Manchester United have not been able to land any one of them.
Due to the lack of options, the Red Devils had to turn towards the veteran Uruguayan defensive ace who had a decent World Cup campaign with his national team. As per reports, however, the 32-year-old has denied moving out of Wanda Metropolitano this summer, which comes as a blow for the Manchester club.

Reportedly, the player was offered a €9m-per-year contract, but to no avail for United and with just a few more hours left to the closure of the transfer window, it looks like the Red Devils are set to lose out on landing a new defensive ace to strengthen their backline. The 13-time Premier League champions had a decent outing in the last season in the top tier, but their inability to land any silverware could be a threat for their Portuguese gaffer, whose job at Old Trafford is at stake if the problem continues.
