According to the Daily Mail, as cited by The Kop Times, Liverpool are still in the race to sign the French star Nabil Fekir. The player has been a long-term target for the Reds and was almost set to join them this summer but the deal was cancelled during the player’s medical.
However, the Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has said recently that he is not sure that the player will be staying back with them for the next term. While being interviewed during his side’s defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the last pre-season friendly, the gaffer said about Fekir’s wish to join the Merseyside club, “He wanted to leave at the end of last season, but came back to training yesterday and was happy.
“Who knows? There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window. For now, he is a Lyon player.”
Fekir had a brilliant World Cup campaign with the France national team as they won the biggest prize in football for the second time in their history. Though the player was used as a substitute, he looked cool and composed and played his part with absolute precision to lead his team to the winners’ podium.
The 25-year-old was on an extended break after the heroics of the World Cup campaign and returned to training yesterday with Lyon yesterday. Though he looks happy to stay at the club for the moment, as per the recent reports, there might be a twist in the tale.
