Tottenham Hotspur defensive ace Toby Alderweireld is eager to make a switch to Manchester United this summer. According to HLN, as reported by the Metro, the Belgian international is looking to complete a move to Old Trafford before the summer transfer window comes to a close in a few days time.
It is understood that United boss Jose Mourinho is still looking to snap up a new central defender in the coming days and Alderweireld fits the bill perfectly. The Red Devils have already been linked with a number of defenders recently which include Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina. However, both deals look unlikely at this moment in time which has seen United shift their focus on the Belgian centre-half.
Some sources are now claiming that Alderweireld is eager to leave White Hart Lane in favour of a move to Manchester and is hoping that the two clubs can agree on a transfer fee before the deadline on Thursday.
Spurs are asking for a mammoth fee in the region of £60m but could lose the former Ajax star for as little as £25m next year when a clause in his contract comes into effect. Hence, a potential move this summer could benefit everyone involved.
Spurs have already tried to tie Alderweireld down on a new deal but in vain. Thus, the North Londoners have no other choice but to cash in on their prized asset if a sizable offer is made for the defender’s services before the deadline.
The Belgian was a sporadic feature under Mauricio Pochettino last season but put in some solid performances for his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He was an integral member of the Belgian national team that claimed a third-place finish in the competition.
