Chelsea are looking to consolidate their midfield further, even though they have acquired Jorginho. They are currently in talks with Inter Milan over the sale of Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino. This is not the first time that Maurizio Sarri is trying to sign the 26-year-old midfielder as even when he was with Napoli, he tried to sign the Uruguayan international.
The midfielder played an instrumental part for his country in the World Cup where they reached the quarter-finals losing to eventual winners France. The Italian outfit are demanding £32m for the midfielder and it will be interesting to see whether the Blues will pay such kind of money.
Chelsea had a poor campaign under Antonio Conte last season as they missed out on the top 4 finish and that was largely down to the fact that the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas failed to provide any sort of support to Ngolo Kante in midfield. Vecino will certainly bring more strength and stability in midfield and we can see the partnership of Vecino, Kante and Jorginho if Inter Milan decides to sell the player.
Vecino made 31 appearances last season for Milan as he helped them get back to Champions League football and that is what the goal of Sarri will be at Stamford Bridge in his first season. However, this where the Pensioners might find it hard to lure him as they currently ply their trade in the Europa League.

Sarri had worked with Vecino previously when he was on loan to Empoli and he has always been an admirer of the player. The Blues lost the Community Shield Final to Manchester City by two goals to nil and there were some gaping holes in midfield and defence. The Italian manager is set to have a lot on his plate in the upcoming season but signing Vecino will certainly ease some of his tension.
