According to The Faithful MUFC, Manchester United are set to face a huge blow from Premier League rivals, Chelsea, as the Blues enter the race for the Real Madrid midfield ace Mateo Kovacic. The Red Devils have been in pursuit of the player’s signature for quite some time but it seems that they might not be able to finally land the player now.
The Croatian midfielder, who has been used more as a substitute than a regular squad player since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2015, is reportedly desperate to find himself a new club where he can be a guaranteed starter. Manchester United are in need of strengthening their midfield for the next term and the inclusion of Kovacic might be a good move for all parties.
Mourinho has already brought in Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and has the likes of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic as his midfield generals. However, the Brazilian ace is untested on English soil and Pogba and Matic were not able to do anything special last season as the Red Devils ended 19 points behind their arch-rivals Manchester City in the second place. This has made the Portuguese tactician become sceptical about his team’s composition and a move for the influential Croatian might be on the cards.

However, now with Chelsea in the race for the Real Madrid ace, it might be difficult for the former Chelsea manager to lay hands on his desired player. The Blues also have a number of good midfielders in their side and have already added Napoli midfielder Jorginho to their ranks but it might be quite difficult for them to neglect the lure of bringing a world-class enforcer like Kovacic to their team, making it difficult for Manchester United.
