Steven Gerrard will make his debut as the Rangers manager in the Scottish Premiership as the Gers get ready to take on Aberdeen tomorrow. Rangers would want to challenge Celtic for the title this season, and they could throw down the gauntlet by defeating last season’s runners-up Aberdeen at the Pittodrie Stadium.
Derek McInnes’ men would be more tired than Rangers as they played an extra 30 minutes against Premier League side Burnley on Thursday. Gerrard must hope that his players can take advantage of this; especially in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Rangers are coming on the back of reasonable form as they have already navigated the first two qualifying rounds of the Europa League and would face Maribor in the third round next. However, the match against Aberdeen is equally essential, and Gerrard should play his strongest team against the Dons.
Injury Concerns and Team News
Gerrard has already confirmed that Rangers have no new injury trouble ahead of the match against Aberdeen. Lee Wallace, Declan John, Jordan Rossiter and Graham Dorrans are still out and will not be a part of the matchday squad. Umar Sadiq is also a huge doubt to make the squad as he is currently short on match fitness.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Rangers Lineup To Face Aberdeen
Defence
Allan McGregor will start in goal as expected.
The club captain James Tavernier and former Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan are expected to start in the right-back and left-back positions respectively. In the central defence, we can expect Gerrard to continue with the partnership of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
Midfield
Ryan Jack has been at his best in the last few games, and the Rangers faithful would be hoping that he continues this form against Aberdeen. Lassana Coulibaly is expected to partner him in midfield. Scott Arfield will be hoping to return to the Rangers team in the attacking midfield position.
Forward
Jamie Murphy was suddenly dropped against Osijek on Thursday night. Hopefully, Gerrard will recall him back to the starting eleven for Sunday. Daniel Candeias is expected to start again in place of Josh Windass. Alfredo Morelos would be the one to lead the Rangers attack.
