Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is keen to a move to Manchester United and if he doesn’t get his move to Manchester, he is willing to run down his contract at the North London club. The Belgian defender has been linked with a move away from the club even before the transfer window began and United have been considered as the frontrunners to sign him.
However, the Red Devils are slightly put off by the asking price of the defender as Spurs are demanding anything up to £75m for the 29-year-old. Jose Mourinho will be looking to improve his side as they saw their derby rivals dominate the league last season. Mourinho went trophyless and his tactics and playing style was criticised by everyone.
Alderweireld struggled with injury last season but even when he was available, Mauricio Pochettino went on to use Davinson Sanchez over him which showed that the Argentine manager has lost faith in the highly rated Belgian defender.
Alderweireld will definitely be an upgrade over most of the defenders at Old Trafford and he can form a strong partnership with Eric Bailly. The likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are error-prone whereas Victor Lindelof has found it tough to adjust to life in the Premier League.

The player is in the final year of his contract and Spurs will have an option to extend it by another year. However, they will eventually turn out to be the losers as that extension will then put his release clause at £25m. There is still a week to go in the transfer window so we can expect some activity before it shuts down and if Spurs are unable to convince him to sign a new contract, selling him for big money won’t be a bad option.
