According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have completed the signing of Polish defender Lukasz Bejger. The 16-year-old defender was also the target of Manchester City. However, their derby rivals have beaten them for his signature. The teenager had a trial last season in August, and the deal for the player was agreed in January this year. However, the Red Devils had to wait for a clearance from Lech Poznan to finalise the deal.
The youngster has captained his national side at the u-16 level and primarily plays as a centre back, however, he can fill in the role of a right back as well. Signing for a club of United’s stature is a big thing, but the real test for the young defender will begin now. We have often seen highly rated youngsters fail to take the next big step at a big club. Though, the Polish defender has a bright future ahead of him.
At just 16, Bejger stands at 6ft 2 inches tall and is already a dominant centre-half at his age level. He will have to bide his time in the youth setup and reserve squad before he gets close to the first team at Old Trafford.
United have a history of promoting youth talent but modern day football is becoming ruthless for youngsters. The manager is always under pressure to deliver positive results, and because of that, he cannot afford to give young players a good run of games in the first team. That is one of the reasons why managers go out and buy players even though they can make use of academy products.

Bejger will be hoping that he doesn’t get lost in the crowd and will be looking to establish himself in the senior team in the next 3-4 years.
