Chelsea are still hoping to secure the services of Inter Milan midfield talent Matias Vecino this summer. According to a recent report by Alfredo Pedulla of Sportitalia, as mentioned at calciomercato.com, the Blues are still keeping tabs on the Serie A prospect’s situation at the San Siro but have not made an official bid for the player so far during this summer transfer period.
It is believed that the 26-year-old midfield ace is one of Maurizio Sarri’s top transfer targets ahead of the new campaign. The Uruguayan had an influential season at the heart of the Inter Milan midfield during the course of last season and his outstanding contributions have not gone unnoticed by the Blues.
However, the arrival of Radja Nainggolan could see him fall down the pecking order at the San Siro and his place in the Inter first-team is further under threat, especially with recent speculation linking the Italian giants with a move for Bayern Munich‘s Arturo Vidal and Chelsea’s Tiémoué Bakayoko.
Vecino had featured in 31 matches for Inter last season, scoring 3 goals while creating 3 assists in all competitions. He also went on to have an impressive 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign with Uruguay as he helped his country qualify from the group stages but were eventually knocked out by France in the knockout phases of the competition.
He could turn out to a shrewd addition if Chelsea follows up on their interest and tables an official bid for the player in the coming days before the transfer window comes to a close next week. It has also been reported that they could turn their attention towards signing Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal if they are unable to land Vecino this summer.
